On Saturday, June 2, 2012 at approximately 8:06 p.m., Eden Police Sergeant Jason Mayes responded to Morehead Memorial Hospital in reference to a patient being the victim of Child Abuse.

Upon arrival, Sergeant Mayes spoke with hospital staff concerning the condition of a 5-month-old child with head trauma.  The child was transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem for treatment.  Officers on scene spoke with the child’s mother, Dusty Gilley Gammon, concerning the incident.

Detective David Lamberth and Detective Sergeant Paul Moore responded to the hospital and took charge of the investigation.  

On Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at approximately 11:55 a.m. the 5-month-old child was pronounced dead at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.  

Detectives with the Eden Police Department continue to investigate circumstances surrounding the injuries and subsequent death of the child.  Detectives are consulting with the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for a proximate cause of death as the investigation continues.  .
